Somatic Experiencing Professional Training Program 2008

Instructors: Maggie Kline, MFT and Nancy Napier, MA

Course Description:
Crossings is pleased to announce that it will be offering Beginning and Intermediate Somatic Experiencing training in 2008. Somatic Experiencing is a powerful method for addressing the psychobiology of stress and trauma. There is growing scientific evidence that the dynamics of traumatic stress are biological to a significant degree.

Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, author of Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma, this course emphasizes applying SE to clinical settings with ongoing clients. This three-year training program promises to be a rich experience in clinical integration, with 72 CEU's per year for mental health clinicians, bodyworkers and acupuncturists learning together to help clients address stress and trauma. Each year of training involves 12 days (in 3 blocks of 4 for the first two years and 2 blocks of 6 for the third year).

Contact Information: To register, and for more information about SE and the Silver Spring training, go to the Foundation for Human Enrichment website, http://www.traumahealing.com or contact Alaine Duncan at aduncan@crossingshealing.com or (301) 565-4924 x 101.

Cost: The fee is $675 per module (4 days). Some scholarships are available.

Character Structure and Trauma Healing

Instructors: Laurence Heller, Ph.D.

Date: Saturday – Tuesday, February 9 – 12, 2008

CEU's: 24

Cost: $595 until January 10, $650 after

Course Description:
Dr. Heller will present a somatically based, developmental system for understanding character structure. He will include material on attachment, pre- and peri-natal trauma and intergenerational trauma, as well as recent neuro-psychological understandings of character structure. In this experiential workshop, participants will explore their relationship with each character structure and the relevant transference and counter-transference issues that arise in working with each type. He will explore the reverberating loop of character structure, shock-trauma, and developmental issues.

Dr. Heller will focus on working with the five basic archetypal themes as they are reflected in somatic patterns, the nervous system, coping mechanisms, and behavior. Symptoms develop when people are disconnected from core resources. This non-pathologizing approach facilitates reconnection to the core biological resources of each character type.

The five character types are:
Contact/Existence – (connecting with the body and with others – social engagement)
Nurture/Nourishment – (recognizing, reaching out for, and “tolerating” abundance)
Dependence/Trust – (relinquishing control, basic trust)
Independence/Autonomy – (setting appropriate limits, living without pathological guilt)
Love/Sexuality – (integrating an open heart with passion and sexuality)

Instructor Bio:
Laurence Heller, Ph.D., is a senior faculty member of the Foundation for Human Enrichment, and an adjunct faculty member of the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute. He co-founded the Gestalt Institute of Denver and was their director of training. Dr. Heller presents seminars on Somatic Experiencing, trauma, developmental psychology and character structure in Europe and the U.S.

Soul Lightening Acupressure Professional Training and Certification Programs 2008

Program Overview

PROFESSIONAL ACUPRESSURE TRAINING

  • Physical Therapists
  • Chiropractors
  • Physicians and Nurses

WHAT IS SOUL LIGHTENING ACUPRESSURE?

Soul Lightening International coordinates the activities of Process Acupressure and Clinical Acupressure. Our programs offer practical skills for lighting up the world—one body, one mind, one soul at a time.

Process Acupressure is a "whole-person" therapeutic modality that integrates bodywork with emotional and spiritual processing to empower soul consciousness. Utilizing the ancient traditions of acupressure in combination with contemporary processing skills, this transformative work facilitates a return to deep inner wisdom, balance, and peace.

This form of acupressure is also extremely effective in clinical settings such as physical therapy, chiropractic, etc., so the program has grown to include a Clinical Acupressure (CA) certification program as well. The CA workshops are designed to give students an embodied learning experience and skills they can use right away in the treatment room, without incorporating psychological and spiritual processing skills.

Both PA and CA promote better health and renewed energy by actively involving the client in their own healing and growth process.

CEU's for Acupuncturists and Massage Therapists: 24

Course Description:
Utilizing the same energy pathways (meridians) that the Chinese mapped for acupuncture 4000 years ago, Clinical Acupressure brings the profound healing potential of these ancient teachings into the contemporary treatment room. Often described as "acupuncture without needles," Clinical Acupressure (formerly known as Basic Acupressure) promotes balance, rejuvenation, and wellness by addressing the vital energies of the body.

Participants at this workshop will access and experience more than 40 powerful, multi-functional acupoints and receive a handbook with nearly 70 acupressure formulas to address common conditions. This is the same effective acupressure method used in Process Acupressure, but is designed for clinical settings, such as physical therapy, chiropractic, or other traditional healthcare settings and does not incorporate psychological or spiritual processing skills.

This course is the cornerstone of our certification program. It introduces the foundations for the method used in all Process Acupressure and Clinical Acupressure work. After this course students are equipped with the basic tools they need to begin using acupressure in their professional practice right away.
