Dr Mary Warfield is a Board Certified physician in Internal Medicine and a licensed Medical Acupuncturist. A graduate of Georgetown Medical School, Mary completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center in 1981. Her twenty-five plus years of healthcare experience include teaching, training, and supervising medical students, interns, and residents as an associate professor for Georgetown Department of Medicine at DC General Hospital, practicing Internal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center, and managing and providing direct medical services to students as clinical director of Student Health Services at American University. During this time Mary developed an additional specialty in End of Life issues. This involvement in a very complex area of health care led Mary to additional study in philosophy, ethics, and law. In 1994 Mary was awarded a Masters degree in Clinical Bioethics at the University of Virginia followed by over 15 years of consultations, as a Bioethicist, with a broad range of healthcare Ethics Committees at area hospitals.

While practicing in both the Internal Medicine and Bioethics fields, Mary learned the importance taking into account a patient’s complete life story as well as their health and illness history. This holistic perspective to health and wellness led her to move in a dynamic new direction, one steeped in the traditions of ancient eastern healing arts.

Mary received training and certification in Traditional Chinese Medicine through the University of California, Irvine. Mary avidly continues to study, practice, and specialize in 5 Elements Acupuncture. Mary utilizes a unique and integrative approach to medical care which incorporates both conventional and alternative methods for evaluating and treating a patient in order to maximize overall health and well being. Mary can provide a personalized evaluation and provide advice for blending complementary alternative therapies with conventional medical care. In addition, Mary is available to collaborate with other specialties and disciplines in developing a clear, comprehensive, and holistic plan of care that incorporates all aspects of health and wellness.
